Sometimes, the right time to refinance isn’t today but that doesn’t mean you should stop looking for opportunities to save.

Sidney Widdel, Financial Services Officer I at our Minot Temporary Branch, recently helped a member revisit an auto loan after previously determining that refinancing wasn’t in a good option at the time. About five months later, the member reached back out. In that short time, progress had been made on the loan, bringing the member closer to a position where refinancing could make sense.

Sidney took another look at the loan and found an opportunity to refinance that resulted in a $176 lower monthly payment. The member is also expected to save approximately $6,477 in interest over the remainder of the loan.

This is a great example of how taking another look at your loan, even just a few months later, can make a meaningful difference. Sidney’s approach also highlights the value of having someone in your corner. Instead of simply refinancing right away, Sidney helped the member understand their options, set a goal, and revisit the loan when the timing was right.

Individual results may vary. Savings and loan terms depend on creditworthiness and other factors.
