Credit Score FAQ's

What is Credit Score?

  • Credit Score is a free credit report monitoring system available to Town & Country Credit Union members ages 18 and up within TCCU Online & and the mobile app. Credit Score allows members to check their credit score daily, track changes to their score, learn why those changes occurred and make informed credit decisions with the Score Simulator.

How do I access Credit Score?

  • By clicking on "Credit Score" within TCCU Online or the mobile app. If you don't have TCCU Online credentials, sign up to create a username and password. You will use the same credentials when logging in using TCCU Online and the mobile app.

How can Credit Score help me?

  • When it comes to your credit score, knowledge is power. Understanding your score and the reasoning behind it will help you make better decisions in the future to improve your score.

Will using Credit Score lower my credit score?

  • No. Credit Score uses a soft inquiry or pull which does not negatively affect your credit score.

What is the difference between a soft and hard credit pull?

  • A hard credit pull or inquiry is used when applying for loans. A soft pull or inquiry, like Credit Score uses, isn't used for a specific application; therefore, it does not affect your credit score.

Can I set up alerts to notify me of changes to my credit score?

  • Yes! Credit Score is constantly monitoring your score and will send you email notifications when there has been a change to your profile.

How often will my credit score be updated?

  • Your score will be updated each week within Credit Score, but you can click on "refresh score" every day for an updated score.

How does Credit Score keep financial information secure?

What is the Credit Report in Credit Score?

  • Your Credit Report in Credit Score encompasses all the information you would find on your credit file including loans, accounts and credit inquires. You can also see details on payment history, credit utilization and public records.

What credit bureau is Credit Score pulling from?

  • Credit Score pulls from TransUnion and uses VantageScore 3.0. This model was developed by the three credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian and TransUnion — with a goal to provide consumers an overall picture of their credit health.

Will Town & Country Credit Union honor the rate offered in Credit Score for consumer loan applications?

  • If you are offered a lower rate in Credit Score than what you're offered during your loan application process, let us know. We'll review your information and honor the rate from Credit Score for the applicable product (includes auto loans and personal loans).

Why is my Credit Score different from the score Town & Country pulls when applying for a Mortgage?

  • Credit Score pulls your credit profile from TransUnion, one of the three major credit reporting bureaus. When applying for a mortgage loan Town & Country Credit Union will use a tri-merge credit report which returns scores from all three of the major consumer credit bureaus using a mortgage scoring model. For this reason your score may differ from the one found within Credit Score. Town & Country uses the tri-merge credit report paired with other lending criteria to make loan decisions for mortgage-related loans.

Why is Credit Score available to members if it’s not used to make loan decisions when applying for a Mortgage?

  • Credit Score is a free tool to help you manage and improve your credit score so when it’s time to make a big purchase, like a new home, you’ll have a good idea of your credit health and can secure the lowest rate possible. It also includes offers on how you could save money on new and existing loans.

Always greet me by name

I just love everyone who works here. I’d absolutely recommend Town & Country to friends and family… they always know who I am, they always greet me by name, and I feel very welcome here.
