Since 2007, America Saves Week has been an annual celebration as well as a call to action for everyday Americans to commit to saving successfully. America Saves Week encourages individuals to do a financial check-in that allows them to get a clear view of their finances, set savings goals, and create a plan to achieve them.

This year, America Saves Week is scheduled for February 21 – 25 and the theme is ‘Building Financial Resilience’. During the week, consumers are challenged to focus on the following items. Learn more about each day.

  • Monday, February 21 – Save Automatically
  • Tuesday, February 22 – Save for the Unexpected
  • Wednesday, February 23 – Save to Retire
  • Thursday, February 24 – Save by Reducing Debt
  • Friday, February 25 – Save as a Family

"As your local financial, we want to ensure we’re providing you with the knowledge and financial tools to assist you in saving your hard earned money. We’ve rounded up a few tips for how to make saving easier:"

  1. Split to Save: Instruct your employer to direct a certain amount from your paycheck to a retirement or savings account. Ask your HR department for assistance with this automatic savings method.
  2. Auto-Transfer: With every paycheck or on a consistent day of the month, transfer a fixed amount from your checking account to a savings account. Ask a Town & Country representative for help setting this up or give it a try yourself within TCCU Online under ‘move money’ and then ‘schedule a transfer’.
  3. EZ2 Save: Round up your debit card purchases to the next dollar and transfer that amount to your savings.
  4. Save Your Loose Change: Keep a jar at home and fill it up with all of your loose change from your car, purse and pockets. Bring your jar to the credit union when it’s full and deposit into your savings account.
  5. Refinance and Save: Do you know what your interest rates are on your car loan, credit cards or mortgage? If they are on the higher end, you could save money by refinancing and lowering your interest rate. Reach out to one of our team members to see if you would qualify to refinance.
  6. Save with Your Kids: Learning to save money starts early. Open a youth savings account for your kids and bring them in to the branch with you to make deposits. Kids get a prize whenever they make a deposit into their savings account.
  7. Financial Counseling: Financial Counseling isn’t only for those struggling with their finances. Town & Country members can meet with a Certified Financial Counselor for free to review their financial health and look for any areas of improvement.
